Quantitative Project and Presentation

In Spring 2022, I took the NURS363 class titled, "Critical Inquiry in Nursing". Through this class, I learned all about the importance of research in nursing practice, including topics such as different types of research, the use of evidence-based practice, and statistical tests used in research. After gaining a better understanding in types of research, we were tasked with completing a quantitative research project and presentation to demonstrate our knowledge of the topics we learned. This was completed in a group of four, and although we did not actually carry out the full research project, we simulated all the steps that would have to be completed. We first used MavScholar to find scholarly, peer-reviewed articles to gain better information which helped lead us to determine our research problem based on the gap in research (Information Literacy Levels 1-3). For my group, we chose to examine "the relationship between alcohol consumption among nursing students and their educational performance" as we realized that many college-aged students drink excessively, and there was no evidence in the previous research regarding college-aged nursing students (Original Research Level 1). I hope to use skills and information learned in this class as my research team and I move further into the research project on LGBTQIA+ Older Adults Views on Aging.
