Introduction To Global Citizenship Reflection

In the Honors 201 course, I watched multiple podcasts and TED Talks about language and culture.  Learning about other cultures through these videos as well as from my peers has helped me become more culturally competent and aware of others’ beliefs and values which will help me in my future as I study to become a nurse (Knowledge and Understanding Levels 1 and 2). In addition, I created an identity chart. It helped me understand all characteristics of mine that make me who I am and help me understand the different communities and cultures I am a part of (Self-awareness Levels 1 and 2). Lastly, through Spanish 102 this year it has become more apparent to me that nonverbal communication in other cultures can be viewed differently as in some countries certain hand gestures could be deemed inappropriate while in others eye contact is not of high value compared to the United States (Communication Levels 1 and 2).
