Article Review Project

In my Introduction to Cultural Geography class, we talked a lot about culturally competent nursing. At the end of the course we were tasked with completing a project in which we found credible articles through MavScholar surrounding culture, geography and nursing and then reviewing the articles. MavScholar is one of many resources that are available to me. This search engine works to provide only sources that meet the criteria needed to be deemed credible. Knowing the author is important as you can search their background in that field. Knowing where the information came from is important as well to see if it was from a known institution or organization or from somewhere that may not be as knowledge or nationally recognized in that subject. Lastly, how the material was obtained can be important as it is usually more reliable if it is a primary source. Depending on the research one is trying to complete, it may matter whether the information was gathered via a survey, interviews, or other statistics. This knowledge gained from reading and evaluating the articles will hopefully help me as a nurse in the future (Information Literacy Levels 1-3). After reading such information, it was organized into two sections: a summary of  what we read in the article and then an argument about how it can lead to providing culturally competent care. This organization style helped to organize the ideas found in the reading and then create our own opinions and perspectives on the subject (Information Synthesis Levels 1 and 2). Upon completing this project, I am now better able to find sources to gain knowledge and for research purposes.
